Today i used Norton Ghost 2003 software to backup my HardDisk data to some cd-r.For first time i choose high compression and i noticed that sometimes the Hdisk was stopping inorder to comress data. The led of the CD-RW was turning to green (flashing first) and then becoming red again and continue writing. There was no BUFFER-UNDERUN error, nothing. The cdz were absolutely perfect.
What is going on????
I think that yamaha 2100 has safeburn but yamaha didn't activate it in order to sell more 2200 recorders.

Is there anyway to activate this option.
Any firmware?

Thank's a lot!!!!!!

I've got an HP-9700k on one of my machines which I believe is a rebranded Yamaha 2100e. HP does not put out any firmware for this unit, but Yamaha certainly does.

1. Am I correct in believing that the HP-9700k is a Yamaha 2100e?
2. Is there any way to activate Safeburn on this drive? It certainly doesn't show up as having it in either Prassi or Nero.
3. Was this part of a firmware upgrade? ...and...
4. Is there any way to put the Yamaha firmware on it?

Hi geocha
Yes you are right the 2100s dosen't have burnproof but it does have a 8meg buffer !!!
I went to edit my other post and pressed the wrong button and deleted it !!! [:I]
and the answer is no there is no way to activate this option and if you have got the latest firmware that is all there is !!!
But with an 8meg buffer you shouldn't need to worry anyway unless you have a slow hard-drive or cd-rom to copy from !!!

But why the drive was doing this strange thing in dos mode???Is it possible that Norton Ghost has something that can prevent bufferunderun?

I'm just curious....[?][?][?][?][?]

LOL and what makes you think that the Plextor 48x is better than the new Yamaha F1 44x !!! [?]
And by the way you posted the exact same Topic in the OC Section of the forum so I deleted it there is no need to post it twice !!!

I am sorry but we do not allow 2 Identical Topics on our Forum and this is the best Section to put this question in otherwise things could get out of hand trying to answer them all and them going of in different directions and I do hope you understand !!!

And if as you say Plextor are the Best why have you got a Yamaha !!! [?]
Are you saying it just because after you bought the 2100s Yamaha made the 2200 with Burnproof because that is how Computer Technology is one day you have the best and the next day there is one out that you think is better than the one you have !!!

I got a yamaha because i though that were the best. But i saw that sometimes my drive does not read the cd-rw with the first time but i have to reload the tray 1-2 times.I am sure that is drive's problem and not aspi because it happens also in dos , win98 , win2k mode.

Sorry for my English and for my last post.[:I]

No problem Mate but the problem with CDRW is usualy down to software and is not very often down to Hardware !!!
Personally I now keep well away from CDRW at the moment untill they get the Packet Writing Software perfected which I have got my own doubts that they never will and also with the CDR CD's being so cheap at the moment I cannot see the point in using them anway but it is only my own opinion !!!
