Hey I was just wondering if you guys here have heard of the free bruner software Deepburner and CdburnerXp. At first glance they both look interesting but I not sure on how to evaluate them for a possible replace for Nero. Do you think you guys can do this for me and the rest of the CDRinfo memebers?

What makes you believe you can replace a commercial application by using one of these programs?

They will have almost no comparison to Nero. However, I do know a few people that have used the Deepburner one and it works ok. But if you already have Nero, it makes no sense to switch.

I think the original poster knew more than he allowed us to think of.
I would thus like to have his own comments on the capabilities of the free applications.

1.
Which tasks can we accoblish by using these programs and whuch not?

2.
Those tasks that can not be handled by them, are there other free available programs/utilies a user can apply?

The reason I posted this was to help provide some free alternative to commericial software like nero, which although is probably the best software out there, it has become rather bloated in software and price. But that's my opinion. As we know from software like dvdshrink, virtualdub, open office and other free doesn't not mean bad. It can be rather good actually. But while I cound review this software my self, I would rather leave it to the professionsal, you guys to take the task. You know more than I and would be better suited at this review. To shoot these progs down while early in there evolution would be a mistake. I know that cdinfo is strikes to review every cd/dvd copier and most commerical software. Why not these?

So I asked again. Not to anger the NERO God or anything of that nature, but just to evaluate some programs that maybe worth wild and another option or backup to many of the programs we use here today.

I mean does't it just seem like a good idea to see how these programs fair any way?

Deepburner - a lot of power, in a small package, even though it's now "bloated" to 2.63Mb - it's a beta, when versiuon 2 arrives it will be shareware (or a dead duck).
For general purpose burning, audio or data, it's a quite professional looking program, with basic label printing and autorun menu maker as part of the package.

It's NOT "all formats" though, in fact, it's rather limited.

CD Burner XP (though not ONLY for XP) - would you trust CD software from an author who failed to keep a backup (source to version 1 was lost).
There were some bad updates, but it looks like progress is fairly serene now, but at over 15Mb, it's fighting in the heavyweight division
