Last week I bought a pack of Ridisc 4X G04 and today I received these:
(picture)

Ridisc 4X -> RITEK G05??????

I also ordered a 50 pack of RiDisc 4x G04's, and got the exact same ones you did... upside down logo, media info says G05.

These didn't burn at all with my Sony DRU-500, each time I got a "Power Calibration Error" no matter which speed I tried, even 1x.

However, today I got a new Lite-on 832S burner, and surprisingly it burns these at 8x, with no errors... strange indeed.

Yes probably you need to update the firmware of the DRU-500A in order to support the RiDisc 4X media

Already using the latest firmware, it's from April 2004 though. Maybe the next one will have G05 media support...

I just received a stack of G05s from Meritline in the US and they burned very well at 8X on my NEC 3500. The PI error rates were flat in the 40-60 range. I haven't done a 4X burn yet but I have 4X burns from the old G04s where the PI error rate was in the teens.

What drive were you doing the testing on? and what speed were you testing at?

It makes a big difference how we should look at the results you mentioned. If you were using the LiteON SOHW-832s and scanning at 4x, then those results are not difficult at all. If you were using a PX-712a and scanning at 2x, then this is more impressive! If you were using a LiteON 411s/811s and scanning at 8x, then that would be even more impressive!!

They were done on a Liteon 812S with US0Q firmware at 8X. I switched to 8X as the standard after reading recommendations on your forum but I have had a hard sell over at CDFreaks. They are adamant about 4X.

Yes i know the famous 4X CLV reading speed, to be honest, KProbe/liteON scans are not useful to me anymore, since there is costinency between LiteOn drives, that means two 812S won't return same errors with same disc with same reading speed...

It is truly unfortunate. I shudder to think of the amount of people who rely on such shoddy testing methods

Yes and its rather annoying that several people keep telling the same old story, that 4X CLV with 832S is "correct", while DVD-ROMs are not good drives since reported errors much higher, etc...

RitekUSA (A.K.A. Advanced Media Inc.) just informed me that the G06 was only a rumour.... I told my rep that other Ritek offices didn't agree with him.

On the bright side, he's no longer my rep, and is now going into Retail sales. I wonder if my next rep will know what they're talking about?

G06 probably won't hit the market since...would be high priced, Ritek uses FujiFilm dye to make media for specific customers, this media costs so...

I don't know, some Canadian online stores seem to sell it:

http://mirror.memoryexpress.net/
no direct link since they use Javascript...
click on storage in the left hand side menu, then media, then go down to Ritek, and select the item:

Ritek 4.7GB G06 8X DVD-R, Inkjet Printable White, 50 Pack
SKU: 04893 Part No: RI-DVDR8X-IW-50

I should buy some and see if they are real... but they're in Calgary (I'm in Vancouver), and I don't like paying retail for my media
