Hi all, I got the NEC 2500a burner a while back...the problem is - after I burned a few DVD-Rs @ full speed around 4x (read/rip speed was also around 4x), the drive now has seemed to be locked at 1.2-1.3x for both reading/ripping and burning (same brand of media used which I got the 4x speed) and I wonder why?
This is really bothering me cuz I know it can burn and rip @ 4x...
this also happened with a dvd burner that I got earlier and returned to the store cuz I thought it was defective or something when the speed began to lock at 1.2x...but since now it happens to my NEC2500a drive again, so I think it's my computer's problem - can some PLEASE help me out here - do I need to upgrade my firmware, play with the computer's/burning program's settings? I already upgraded the firmware once to v1.07...

Any help is appreciated, thank you very much!

Can you please post the specs of your system?

The NEC2500A has a firmware lock at 2X for ripping DVD-Video discs with CSS. There are patched firmwares that remove this limit and allow up to 12X (theoretical).

My PC's specs:

PIII 800 Mhz
384mb RAM
Two HDs: 40gb and 120 gb
NEC2500a dvd burner
48X CD burner

I use DVD Decrypter to create ISO images and burning...
I also use Blindwrite if the above doesn't work

Where can I find these "patched" firmware?
so do you mean the one I upgraded wasn't patched?
