The 2500 is completely different from the 1300 plus different firmware sizes.

What about NEC ND-1300, could this drive be upgraded? It's just a slower version of ND-2500.

I have nec 2500A and Iam using a modified Hp520n firmware to support dual layer writting from the dangerous brothers. It still lists it as a 2500A but supports DL and Bitsetting with no after effects like the 2510A firmware. I just don't have no DL media here in the USA yet to try it and mine never has showed Dao16 Sao 16 either before or after.

It is logical to see Verbatim DL media, since they are Mitsubishi Chemicals and the only one available at this time. All tests I am sure that must have been done with those...As for the compatibility I am sure that at this moment it is better to set to DVD-ROM booktype, with the appropriate firmware, since there are some problems with DVD+R boooktype.

Thanks for your answer. I have installed my brand new Nec 2500a and I think this setting is availabale in the recod window of Ner 6.3. Is this the setting youa are talkin about. The setting is located near the speed selection and all this.

Emperor, so I guess although I am not still going to use DL capabilities, it is recommended to use the latest firmware you told me?.

Best regards and thanks again for your support.

Sorry for asking, but what is booktype?.

Best regards.

I would flash it at this time only if enables booktype change feature which I think it is not. Avoid Sony DL(don't forget is exactly the same with LiteON 832S) it is very expensive.

It's a setting that tells your standalone DVD-Player, that the DVD you burned is a not a recordable DVD-R, but a normal DVD-ROM. Some older players need that to play burned discs correctly.

Another question, I have been making some tests with DVD-RW with video to if they worked in my DVD player, and have found some problems using Nero. All the tests worked well with DCS software, but I have not been able to make them worked done with Nero 6.3. Is there any settings that must be changed in order to make the DVD-Videos more compatible?.

Best regards and thank you in advance.

Hello,

I just purchased this NEC 2500A drive from Newegg today and I have read about doing this firmware upgrade. I found this file in one of the forums and I would like to know if this is all I need to update it. It is called 2k5107v2b5dl.Rar ? I was able to extract that file with WinAce to see the Readme and the .exe

Am I all set or is there something else I need? TIA

Rich

Hello Everyone

Yes, I am a newb to DVD burning. I just bought my NEC 2500a and recieved it the other day. I did successfully burn my first DVD last night w/o any errors or problems, except I forgot to ditch the captions. I installed the firmware upgrade 2k5107v2b5dl.Rar and just had a quick question. I read someone that your DVD-Burner had to be set as Secondary Master. Is that true? Mine is set to Secondary Slave and my CD-Burner is Secondary Master. Should I swap them or does it really matter? Thanks for the help in advance, I'm sure you've heard the same questions over and over. Sorry about that.

Also, does the Ritek G04 DVD's work well with that firmware, b/c I just bought a 50-pack.

If your current setup works OK, then there is no need to change it, if you see problems, try to switch master/slave drives to see if performance is improved, there are cases, where the burner needs to be installed as master and via versa.

If you are anxious to try burning to a DL disk, here's how you can get one:

Go to this link: http://www.supermediastore.com/verbatim-dvd-plus-r-dual-double-layer-solution-kit.html

They have a bundle for $25 that includes ONE DVD+R DL disk 2.4x and eight DVD+R 8X disks and one DVD+RW 4X disk.
