Hello again, Emperor, I am seriously thinking of buying a NEC 2500A, I have seen that there have been some changes in the firmware, Could you please tell wich firmware is better and where can I get it?. I have also heard that there is a way to flash it from windows,is it true?, How?.

For sure the latest herrie's firmware (V1.07v2beta5) seems the best solution, it includes DL function and improved writing strategies for many media. Herrie has a windows flasher so no need for DOS

i used herries latest firmware (1.07v2beta5) and ran nero infotool, and see no DL compatibility. is this the norm for this firmware update?

pardon any retardation, im new to this schtick.

hmm, for sure it support DL, have you updated nero-info-tool to the latest version?

Ok, Emperor, I have them. I will get e Nec 2500A this afternoon, but I do not know if I will try this firmware until the DL media is more available. Has it any other benefits apart from DL support that could be worthy to install it anyway?.

I have been wondering wether if it was better to buy a Sony Oficial DL or this Nec, but I have decided to get the Nec, because theorically it does the same as the Sony and for much less price. What do you think about it?.

NEC 2500A supposed to have better writing quality than LiteON drives, don't know if with latest firmware things have changed for the LiteON 832S...Apart from the DL there are several other improvements compared with the official 1.07 firmware, check the link i posted before...

It's a setting that tells your standalone DVD-Player, that the DVD you burned is a not a recordable DVD-R, but a normal DVD-ROM. Some older players need that to play burned discs correctly.

DVD-ROM Booktype will highly improve the compatibility of burned DVDs with either DVD-ROM or desktop DVD players!

The latest 832s firmware supports booktype setting, and it works well, as I just tested it with a 4X DVD+RW and it plays perfectly in everything I put it in... all 6 different desktop DVD players that I have.
