I have just bought a new NEC ND-2500A External DVD burner with a ver1.6 bios. I would like to upgrade it to have Dual Layer capability. I've tried running Herrie's flasher utility for 107v2b5. It detects the drive and begins the flashing process, but soon aborts saying Error.
I've had a look around, but can't see any other way of flashing an external drive. Has anyone else had any success upgrading the USB2 version of this drive ?

hmm if ill flash my nec-2500a , can i use the softwere dvd shrink to burn duel layers (new version does support it) , and have u tested the burned cds on dvd players ?

nefis, herrie's flash won't work with external devices, only way is to put the drive internal and do the flashing...

i am still trying to make this nec nd-2500a work, i downloaded nero, ive tried picture package, my sonic, they all work until the burn phase, then wrong media messages, disk pops out...the nec nd-2500a, has a jumper on the back that i moved to get it to initially boot up, could this jumper be the problem...any help please...i have a dell 8250, i have been using dvd-r by tdk. nero shows my drive is compatible to all medias....confused here

i finally managed to get an installation guide from nec.....i moved the jumpers from master to csel at home last night, i think i should move it to slave, according to the manual,........ do you think this could be the problem i am having. i can't burn the media. i am going to try it on slave when i get home.....what is csel? any way thanks again

worked fine for me. I put it in a third party usb/firewire case and succesfully flashed it with herries windows flasher of 1.07v2b5DL and it works great. I was hesitant at first when I was thinking of getting the drive, but it worked without a hitch for me.

did u load on any of the usb utilities that may have come with the cd for the enclosure? When I tried the utilities I got all sorts of problems, so if u have it on, that may be causing ur problems. Additionally, try flashing it from a usb1 port if u have any...

hai neb... I bought my 2500a a week ago and patched it to 1.07... in breath..know i have some problems with the recording on +rw
- at the end of quick erasing in nero or format in DVDInfo pro it stops and begin clicking....also with bitsetting sometimes in DVDInfo pro
it just stops & I have to powerdown.. my PC to ejekt dvd...wt happening maybe patched version maybeits 'cause it's OEM version

I've solved the problem wiyh bitsetting in DVDIvfo firstly iyou have to set drive's default and then the signed bitsetting! But I still have problems With Formatting..

1.One more thing.. DVdInfo Pro(2.56) often reads errors at the end of the +RW, but NEro(6.3.0.3) can't find any with file system & surface trests!!(on Nec ND2500A 1.07). Maybe such things happen when it can't read blank space after multisession?
2.Also DVdInfo Pro slides down the speed line at the end of Speed test, Nero Knows nothing 'bout such problems again!!
I always do Verification of written data and it shows not even a ghost of problems...
All tests were made on the same DVD+Rw disc, burned wirh Nero with 2.4 speed with ISO multisession.
Tests made with DVDInfo Pro I made even without my Subwoofer :)
Someone had such problems, anything wht the..happens..Soft's disharmony, my dvd recorder,,.. or Herry :)

i am new to this and ording a dvdr at the end of the week and trying to decide i am linking the nd-2510a but have a question is there an easy way to burn "book type" dvd's with these drives? if so what software/steps do i need to take and if not is there a drive that can? thanks

Officially nec has only support for DVD+R DL booktype (DVD-ROM) not for +R/+RW. If you need booktype setting for +R/+RW only way would be to use hacked firmware

Just Get the DVD Info Pro Programm and you'll get such options as i but I flashed my NEC ND 2500a v 1.06 to 1.07 maybe you 'll have to flash yours ...

ok... i got the dvd info pro so am i correct in thinking that if i tinker with it it will burn dvd's that are "more compatable" with my philips dvd-508m and my ps2? and what setting would i need to use
