832S? Isn't that the dual layer one? Am I better off getting a cheaper single-layer writer and getting a dual-layer one in 6 months or so?

The other Lite-On that is (easily) available is LDW-851S

I do quite like Lite-On drives, and all my computers' DVD-ROM drives and CDRW drives are Lite-On and I've had nil problems with any of them, I just wasn't sure as far as my recordable DVD needs go.

Ok then grab 812S, can be upgraded to 832S if you decide to burn DL media

The prices are roughly the same as in the links above, since that's the same shop I'll be buying it from. (though I'll be buying from their retail store). Although their prices fluctuate depending on the day and staff member you get serving you and I may well be able to get it for less than their internet price if I'm lucky. Oh, it's all in Australian dollars.
