Here's what the new TY spindles look like, they're no longer screw tops.

I just received a similar TY cdr cake box from cddimensions except there was no paper label (or indication whatsoever) who makes the cdrs. If the order did not come with a shipping invoice, I would have no way of knowing they were TY disks.

Couldn't you read the ATIP to see who manufactured the discs?

I cannot figure out how to read the atip info. I downloaded cdrid program but I cannot get it to work. I downloaded and loaded what seem to be the latest atip drivers as well. Do you have any suggestions. cdrid seems to be looking for my cdrw drive, but does not seem to have found it. I have a plextor 48/24/48, and am using windows xp home. The cdir program seems to be looking for a scsi drive (it says scsi device: no recorder found)

I downloaded the adaptac aspi driver installer (version 4.71.1) but it does not seem to properly install the drivers (I seemed to follow the instructions and typed install.bat xp32 at the run command box, but it runs, but when I use their utility aspick, it says components missing but does have 4.71.1 listed as the version of aspi32.sys, and wnaspi32.dll. It does say that wowpost.exe and winasp.dll are not installed though. Do I need to install those two files, and if so, how?

Try download either the ForceASPI software or check under the FAQ for ASPI answers

Scott, alot of people are having problems in WinXP and any ASPI layer higher than 4.60. See the ASPI section of the forum, Laffin has posted a link to the 4.60 fix that you can download from there.

Can you be more specific....I looked in what I thought was the board home page's FAQ, but could not find anything about ASPI drivers.....(and I must be overlooking something but cannot find the "ASPI section" of the forum as well)

Also, I just came upon a section of the plextor site, that seems to recommend that you don't load any aspi drivers for the plextor drive to work properly. This being said, is there some easy way to uninstall the drivers (I have the adaptec ones loaded). There does not seem to be any uninstall, and I don't see them listed in my device manager.

Why use the incomplete cdr-identifier which is less up to date then Plextools or the plextor media check utility cdrinfo ? Now I know plextools is not for the US users however you should be able to find an old complete version on the net. If not then I can mail it to you.
Then install this version and then install the update.
The update is on the plextor site and so is the media utiility

Plextor had suggested that the tools program was not compatable with windows xp. Also, I have checked their us website and cannot find a cd info utility. Can you provide a link?

Thanks, this plextor utility seems to work great. Is there some meaning to the info it gives me? It does say Taiyo Yuden. (type 1)

For media type it says: 97m24s01f (does these numbers have any significance to write speed or anything else I would need to know?)

LBA says: 3559997

MSF: 79:59:72

If there is someone who can give me a little help with this, I am new to cdr/cdrw.

Thanks.

type 1 - indicates the writing strategy. Long or short.
atip: 97m24s01f - indicates that these are Taiyo Yuden disc's since every companny should have his own ATIP code.
MSF: 79:79:72 is the writing time without overburning.

I saw some Fuji on sale at a department store in the U.S. recently. I think that they were advertised as being "colored discs". I'm pretty sure that meant the tops of the CD were different colors, not the media itself.

Anyone have any experience with these? I will check the country of manufacturer next time I go there.

I decided to buy them. They look like the picture above except they have a white/beige screw top. The discs are made in Japan.
