mmm. I thought they did a press release a while back announcing that all future Plex'll have 2 year..

oh well.. doesn't matter.. not like I have one or plan on getting one anyway. I got my 2year warrentied Yammie

It is listed as a 40X reader in many places, as it can only read data, mode 1 CD's at 48X with SpeedRead enabled. Even with SpreedRead enabled, audio (mode 2), CD-RW media can only be read at 40X max - a good strategy in my opinion as it allows for a much more precise, less stress, less error, less noise read .

Hey Clint this Plextor 48x/24x/48x drive is smooth as silk to say the least and fast too! Man, Plextor has delivered what I was waiting for. Haven't had any problems at all. But I still have my Plextor 24x setting in the slot above it too. I still can't believe the $128.00 price I paid at Provantage.com, and I ordered it on thursday at 4:30 p. m. and UPS was knocking on my door with the drive on Friday afternoon at 1:oo!!!

Does it have a new "belt" tray loading mechanism, or the good old gear loading??

Clint it still has the old "Space Age" plastic gears! Nevertheless, soooo quite you cannot even hear it loading/unloading the disk. It also has the "Black Tray" and a "Emergency Eject Hole" that has a small round shaft key to fit in the hole to eject the disk.

In addition, it is made in the USA, but I just wish we could get the “Two-year” warranty here!

Are you sure about it having the same gear load mechanism?? All the PX-W4824TA's I've seen have a belt loading mechanism - like the one on the Harwarezone preview of the eval unit. (In the pic, you will see the rubber 'band' belt used for the tray...)

*I'm asking because belt loading trays aren't supposed to be as reliable as gear driven ones, the gears may be louder, but the belts can wear out quicker, and become loose *

BTW, I didn't know Plextor's were also made in the USA, does it say on top of the drive?? - Have a look on the sticker on top of the drive to see where it was manufactured!!

Usually the European/US are made in China nowadays, but there are also some made in Japan. All Asia/Ociania Plextor's are made in Japan.

Manufactured in Fremont CA. Checked under the tray and gears all the way!!! And like I said, sooooo quite you can't even hear the tray moving!

Well thats good news, hope I don't get belts in mine! All the trays in the Plextor's from PX-W2410A and up are smooth as!

Do you have TLA#0000 or different [?]
