Are you sure about it having the same gear load mechanism?? All the PX-W4824TA's I've seen have a belt loading mechanism - like the one on the
Harwarezone preview of the eval unit. (In the pic, you will see the rubber 'band' belt used for the tray...)
*I'm asking because belt loading trays aren't supposed to be as reliable as gear driven ones, the gears may be louder, but the belts can wear out quicker, and become loose

BTW, I didn't know Plextor's were also made in the USA, does it say on top of the drive?? - Have a look on the sticker on top of the drive to see where it was manufactured!!
Usually the European/US are made in China nowadays, but there are also some made in Japan. All Asia/Ociania Plextor's are made in Japan.
