Help! I currently have a sanyo 24x cdrw that took 4 minutes to burn when i had windows 98, now it takes over 8 minutes under the 24x speed setting, im using good media (verbatim datalife plus) and i made no modifications to my syste besides upgrade my o/s. Can someone give me some pointers on things to check?

Tell us what software you are using.... Also a know issue with XP is that you need to enable DMA for the drive. It will greatly increase your speed...

thnx...using nero did enable dma and installed aspi, worked good for a couple burns, but now back to slow

Well LA you told me to get a sig so I did...LOL.... dhurt, check to make sure that something did not change the DMA back. It must stay enabled...

but where is the "enable DMA" checkbox? ; ) i don't rememberright now...
under XP? under BIOS?

Hi denon
Just go to the Device Manager and select the :-
IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers and select the one you have your CD Writer on and the select Advanced settings and select Auto Detection and DMA if Available then reboot your Computer !!

Thanx for the help guys, my burner goes at full speed with no buffer errors. The only time my buffer goes haywire now is when i burn vcds/svcds. Any additional help will be appreciated.
