Hi Brendan
Well looking at this config from Nero Ping it looks like you have either made a mistake in typing the results in or you have a SCSI Hard-drive or you have got the IDE Hard-drive on the Secondary Port 01 so Please check the results again and tell me what it says about your Hard-drive !!!

Hi LA,
I didn't type anything! I copied and pasted the results of the scan.
I've re-run it and got the same results.
Pasting them again:

Hi Brendan
No you have done it right but it is showing nothing on host adaptor 1 which should be your Secondary IDE Port and usualy the Host 0 is the primary Ide Port but neither are showing a hard-drive so what I need you to do is go to the Device Manager and see what your hard-drive make and model is as I suspect it is a SCSI Drive and if it is this is where the problem could be !!!

Hi Brendan
Well we have found out your Hard-drive is installed but not what it is or where it is installed so go to :-

ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-support/4087/eng/iaa22_enu.exe

And download the Intel Aplication Acelerator and when it has installed open it and tell me what it says !!! This is Intels latest IDE and Busmaster drivers also it will tell us everything we need to know !!!

Hi LA,
I've run the IAA program and here are the results. Will this summary do, or do you want me to generate a full report?
It says:

INTEL(R)82801AA CONTROLLER

PRIMARY CHANNEL - MASTER: FUJITSU MPE3173AE
SLAVE: UNPOPULATED

SECONDARY CHANNEL - MASTER: UNPOPULATED
SLAVE: UNPOPULATED
Hope this helps,

Brendan

Hold it LA!
Something weird has happened!
I checked device manager and as you'll have seen from the last posting, the information has changed from what it said yesterday.
My Generic IDE Type47 is now reading as a Fujitsu! (or is it the Mitsumi that has changed gender?)
It also says, under Hard disk controllers,:
Secondary Ultra ATA controller - Windows stopped responding when trying to install this device, windows will never try to install this device again'.
Could this have happened when I downloaded and opened the IAA program?
After I downloaded and restarted, I did get an error message which required me to restart the computer?
Are things going into meltdown?
Help!!!

Hi again LA,
There is definitely a problem with the IAA program.
I restored my registry to yesterday morning and got my drives back.

I then reinstalled the IAA program and restarted the computer. I got the same error message again! It said,

'An exception OE has occurred at 0028: C15F25D9 in VxD scsiport(01) + 00000879. This was called from 0028:C182FFFC in VxD scsi1hlp(03) + 0000077C'.

I restarted again and Windows loaded OK.
Then I went to Device Manager and hey presto! the Fujitsu is back and my C drive and my CDROM drives have gone!

I'm going to restore the registry again but I don't want to risk using the IAA again, unless you can tell me what might be wrong with it?
We have a saying here in Ireland, 'It never rain but it pours'!

Thanx Tron,
Spose the guys are having a rest, a well-deserved one!
Situation is that I can't run the IAA program which Laffin sent me as it's causing a major problem, which I described in previous posting.
That's the problem - I don't know what to do next!!!!
That's why I was getting worried, as I've heard nothing since Friday morning. Thought maybe the guys had given up on me!!!!!

Hi Brendan
Right I'm back from the Caravan !!!
The first thing to do is to make sure that both your CD's are not set to Master. You must make sure one is Master and the other one is Slave as I told you in my first reply!!! And set the one at the end of the IDE cable to master and the other one to Slave! But make sure that your computer is turned off before you do this ! Then go to device manager and delete both your CD-Roms and don't re-boot when asked !!! then delete your IDE controllers then re-boot and they should all re-install themselves. Then try the IAA again but before you do anything make sure you check the CD-Roms are not both Master or Slave !!! It is not the IAA that is causing the problem because when you ran the Nero Ping you had a problem and it is not that either it is down to your IDE Controllers or a Conflict with your CD-Roms and the Hard-Drive!!! And don't get worried if I don't reply I am enjoying a bit of Sun !!!

Hi LA,
Good to hear from you! Hope you had a relaxing break.
I'm going to do what you suggest but I want to check one thing before I start unhooking cables etc. How will I check that the Matshita DVD Drive is set to Master? Does it have a jumper thing - the same as the Mitsumi? (A little white plastic thing that can be moved to the different settings?)
Another snippet of information which might be relevant - when I installed the Mitsumi int CD drive, the Matshita DVD drive was on a single cable on its own. Does this mean that it was already set to Master? I then had to replace the single cable with the double cable which came with the Mitsumi so that both drives could go into the one IDE port. I made sure that the Mitsumi was set to slave, but I didn't touch the Matshita as I assumed that it was already set to Master.
TTYL,

Yes you DVD drive and the writer both have jumpers to allow you to set them to master or slave. Check the books on your DVD drive to make sure you use the right jumper....

Hi Brendan
If you look on the back of your DVD you should see three sets of pins they will look like this ::: and set your Dvd like this ::I and your Writer like this :I: and that means your have the DVD as Master And your Writer is Slave !!! And the Jumper could be Green , White or Black ! And make sure they are on the same IDE Cable and that the IDE cable is on your Secondary Port Usually on the motherbord at the side of the Port it will usually say IDE 0 or IDE 1 or Primary or Secondary !!!
