I've got an ultraplex40 and it's connected to an adaptec 2940UW controller. When i run NERO cd speed it tells me the burst rate is 1MB/s, which for an ultascsi device is pants as it should be around 20MB/s. I'm running XP on an ABIT BD7II, anyone any ideas why i'm getting such a bad burst rate?
All the other scores in Nero cd speed appear to be about right, averages 30X across the disk with it getting to a fraction below 40 at teh outside.

hmmmm. not got a "my computer" under control panel - got system and hardware, device manager and in there i can find the cdrom but under properties there isn't an option to enable cache. There are 4 tabs - general/properies/volumes/driver. General only has a troubleshoot button, properties only lets you change the volume level, volume has nothing as there isn't a cd in and driver just has driver stuff.
Another winXP mystery?

Yeah that is the latest version sorry to say, I have even tried to find you a new XP driver for your SCSI Adaptor but all Adaptec say is they no longer make the 2940UW so no new XP driver. Even John makes mistakes there is no Cache control in XP where he told you it was and as I never use it I have no Idea were it is for a SCSI CD-ROM sorry ! Have you tried using the latest Plextor Tools you can get them from their Website !!!

yeah, tried the new driver root and came to the same conclusion. Just tried a Qlogic 1020 card and it's the same with it. Either XP is screwed up or the scsi interface on the drive isn't working correctly. NOt sure that i can be bothered with the hassle of installing 98 again to find out or maybe this is teh time to set my machine up to dual boot....

acutally. I don't think you can enable DMA for scsi. Remember, DMA is something that was developed for IDE, not SCSI. You're trying to use something from one interface on another which doesn't quite work. What you'll want to do is check the settings on the scsi controller in your device manager.
