Hi I am looking at purchaseing the Plextor 12/10/32A, however
finding it difficult to choose betwen the Sony CRX161182U with
burnproof. However I can't find any reviews on the Sony drive. Does
anyone know what the Sony is capable of backing up. I have been told
that the Plextor can't backup Safe Disk 2, but it is suposedly the best burner out their. Is their any drive out there that can backup everything and anything and is Clonecd compatible? Your advice will be much appreciated.

Sherman

We cannot comment upon Sony drive since we haven't really tested it. Plextor 12x was a fine model but there are a lot new 20x and 24x recorders that can do better.

Hi John,
The Plextor drive is costing around 450 australian dollars. That is
expensive to tell you the truth. My main purpose is to backup my current games & future ones and the odd hard-disk backup. So if you
can give me an example of a really good drive that can backup almost
anything out their and has anti-coaster technology, It will defintley
help me in the decision making process.

Thanking You
Sherman

Mosty Sony drives CAN NOT backup games and go by redbook standards (can NOT burn over 650MB) I think that you should buy plextorif you want one of those BUT
THE BEST DRIVE IS Liteon 24x10x32 $150 www.newegg.com in my opinion i got one to REPLACE the 12x10x32 from plextor (can bacvkup more then the plextor can also and uip to 99 minutes) choose wisely

Well I have just found that the ACER 1208A with Seamless Link can do
a 1:1 copy of Safedisk Version 2 protected CD's as well as other
older copy protections. So I am leading to think that this maybe
the one to go with as it maybe able to copy everything that is
curently available. What do you think?

I think I will consider your choice. Can it copy Safedisk 2?
The only hard part is finding it here in Melbourne Australia.
Anyway I will see if I can get it, and if not probaby go back to Plextors as it looks reliable even though it can't copy Safedisk 2.

Well found a lead here in Melbourne. In fact it is actually
24x10x40 drive. I hope this is worth giving up the Plextor. Anyway thanks Guys

Sherman, my advice is to get the 12x Acer and be happy and use the extra money for women and beer. If copies perfectly SD2 and is available, at least here in the states, for $85 USD.

Sherman, oh and forget the Sony! Plextor 12x and 16X is also nice, but 12X won't copy SD2. Even the lowly Acer 8X will copy SD2 (with CloneCD of course).

Sherman, you may try to use a iomeage 12X cd writer. I found this 12x writer about $350 in Sunday computer market. And the seller said that it is a plextor base cd writer. I just bought a Plextor 24X10X40X $540. It is very expensive, but it is very good. However, I haven't tried to copy SD2 game.

Sherman, I found a iomega 12X10X32X cd writer in Sunday Computer Market about $350. The seller said that it is a plextor based cd writer. Also, the Plextor 24X10X40X is $600 in city.
Do you know how much for Plextor 12X10X32 SCSI cd writer in Melbourne?
