I have a TDK cyclone internal IDE 241040B with 57S4 firmware (I upgraded it from 57S2).
Things were fine(ish) until I flashed the firmware and updated to nero 5.5.9.0
In between I installed the trial of clone cd, but on discovering problems uninstalled.
I get a SCSI/IDE command aborted error when trying to erase CDRWs and fixation failed errors when burning normally.
Now XP's built in burning feature doesn't work either!
Help, please!

Hi afinman
There is a later version of firmware for your TDK 241040B it is 57S5 and you can get it here :-
http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firmware/List_DriveVersions.asp?ListWhat=VeloCD%2024/10/40B
And I suggest you reinstall Clone CD and disable Windows XP built in Burning program and then see what happens !!1
If you still have a problem let us know and I am sure we can sort it out
I hope this Helps !!!

I'd rather not patch the firmware to 57S5
I'm in the UK and having spoken to a technician at TDK who said I should only use UK firmware.
How there can be non UK firmware, I don't know, but I don't want to worsen my situation.
Any other tips?

Hi afinman
I cannot understand why he has told you that when it is the only firmware available on their Uk Website. The 57S5 does change your 401248B to P-CaV and as for him saying it is not for the UK that is rubbish. Since I have read your post I have phoned TDK Tech support and asked them and they said there is no reason to not upgrade if you are in the Uk!!!
And if you check their Uk Website you will see it is the only upgrade available go to :-

I hope this Helps !!!

erm, I have a 241040b, not a 48 thingy

57s4 is all that's available for my burner therefore: http://www.tdk-europe.com/cyclone/uk/support/upgrading/241040/bmodel
I've put the drive in my server and I'm using an older version of nero which is doing me fine for now. I will probably attempt a reinstall of my main system when I can, but if you have any pointers, I'd rather use them than start from scratch again.

Thanks, but I don't think i'll be installing that.
I have XP and you sent me stuff for NT that has Dlls which are way out of date - 1997.
I have already downloaded and successfully installed http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?sess=no&cat=/Operating+System/Microsoft+Windows+XP&filekey=aspi_v471.exe and still no joy, its obviously something specific to my system or my drive now with its new firmware.
Its in my server and is reliably burning for the moment, so I'm not too bothered right now, its just ashame to be generating coasters when I shouldn't be.

The file I sent you is not just for NT it is also for XP and it cures most of the problems with XP and ASPI but if you don't want to use it Fine.

And just as another note:

Laffin emailed me the same file he emailed you, I installed it (I Have Windows XP Home Edition) and I haven't had ANY problems at all. I'm thinking it's a firmware / system problem, not the software. But like Laffin stated "you choose what you install on your system"

You're the second person to say Laffin uses this... I have used it since day one here, years ago! And I strongly believe it. I might need to make the text bigger in my sig .

I'm confused

Not to worry, just thought I'd point it out!
