Just downloaded and ran the latest firmware flasher from the liteonit.com site for the Lite-On LTR-48246S. It allowed me to burn in Nero at 48x burn speeds, a small boost up from the 40x that I was doing before. Unfortunately it still has huge amounts of c1 errors while finishing the last third of the Ritek discs that I have, even giving me C2 errors now, which I haven't seen much of... Well, back to the drawing board

update: Ok, checking for errors at full speed with Cd Doctor may not have been the smartest idea. Checking the same disc at 12x speed pretty much made all those annoying errors vanish. [:p] A good lesson on what the drives can and cannot handle.

Some types of errors can be extremely potent at high reading speeds. When you get really bad results, it is usually a good idea to test at lower speeds to see how serious the situation really is.
