Can anyone tell me what the TDK 40x12x48 Writer is like compaired to the other top brands please ie: Plextor,Liteon,Yammaha and Freecom
Any spec would be helpfull as I am thinking of buying one

you may want to check the website of your favorite recording software first make sure it is supported...depends on what you are trying to back-up I have yet to see a TDK that supports EFM which is very helpful in backing-up games using safedisk 2...decide what you want to do with it then visit sites like elby.de (clonecd)or cd-mate.com or ahead.de(nero)look under the writer support see what it will do then find reviews...everyone has one they swear by my lite-on 32123S works great but thats me, others will call it junk but I won't. The Plextor 40 is a good one burns about anything...but my plextor 12/10/32A doesn't do such a good job...

There are 2 versions of the Uk CYCLONE Internal IDE model
The CDRW401248A Which is the Sanyo inside
and The CDRW401248B Which is the Lite-on
If you are thinking of backing up SD2 I would go for the B version!
Nero supports it and reports it as:
Media Types CD-R/RW
Maximum Speed 40x{6000 KB/s)
Overburn Supported
Buffer Underrun Protection Supported
Disc at Once Cuesheet DAO/96
CD Text Supported
Recoder Buffer 1984 KB
Mount Rainier Supported
So as you can see this is quite a drive if you need to Backup SD2 or other Protected CD's you should have no problems with the right software.
This was taken from one installed in one of my computers.
It is very quick at Ripping music also.
It also comes in a very high quality case.

Oh Something I forgot to mention!
It will write in Nero at 40x with Philips CD-R80 24x media and as you can see they are only rated at 24x and they have no problems.
Also it does work Superb in Clone CD version 4.0.1.3.

LAFFIN thank you very much for the information on the TDK. My son bought me one today and it is brilliant it copies everything we throw at it. I have done most of my games.
I see that pain in the bottom is still harping on about rubbish. I have never know a man so full of ****e and who loves himself so much.
