i have a HP 8200i internal cd writer. how can i convert this into an external cd writer? i saw a device today which was simple a standalone box into which you could fit any internal cd/cdr drive and then it connects to the paraller port of the computer. it has a power cable too. Should i use it? how much slower is the speed of the praller port compared to an internal drive? is there any other way?

You can also use a usb box. I have one and it works very well with that same drive. still writes at 4x but will only read at 6x though. Not bad if you need to move it around alot.
