I wouldn't mind trying it I have an operational drive that I can RMA very easily and get a new replacement. But I have to wonder what all the commotion is about. Have we forgotten the bottom line?

The 32X isn't like going up 12X in speed hell, it's not even 1X faster than the 24X. Why bother?

I would still do the test anyway, just to further the cause of adventure and discovery, muahahahah. Plus I love to tweak on these things.

It did not work :(:( I tried all the files,,they all say flash failed..Drive LED stays on,wont eject and even stranger !!!The drive is detected by windows after a reboot complete with new f/w..I used a previously read 5S07 bin file and MTKFLASH to recover,so all is ok..All the tests were done on an older 24102B.I will try later on a new hardware revision drive and keep you posted...Can anyone send me just the bin file read from the 32X by MTKFLASH and I will try that??? Cheers Tommy...

Hmm, have you also tried with the 'jumper trick' ?
Its in this forum about the 12x liteon, maybe it works then :)

Where to get the latest MTKFLASH ?
I have version 1.09 but i do not trust it.
It hangs when trying to get the firmware out of my liteon dvd drive, and it doesn't detect the flash of my cdrw.

Could you maybe send it to me via mail ?
thnx !

Hi all,

Can somebody dump an Liteon 32x12x40x firmware for me ?
On the following link the utility to do just that can be downloaded:
http://www.geocities.com/ddumpfrontend/liteon/MTKFLASH/

after that start clean dos (no himem, etc)
then run the following:

mtkflash 'x' R /B 321240.BIN

Replace the 'x' with 1,2,3 or 4
1 - 1st IDE, master
2 - 1st IDE, slave
3 - 2nd IDE, master
4 - 2nd IDE, slave

then ofcourse send it over to me: kbde@msn.com

Thanks !!

Cmon guys,
What do you hope to gain? A lousy little increase in speed. Hell if you want that buy a quality burner to begin with. Sure Liteon's are ok... but everyone knows the quality control is flaky. I don't know, I used to tinker all the time too. Guess I got tired of it. I have so many of these drives now my friends say I should open a store.

Don't see the need for a 32X Liteon when there isn't much to be gained but that 40X Plextor sure sounds promising! Now there is quality with a capital Q!
