Dear dudes,

I saw some forums of China and Taiwan state that Lite-On 24X CD Writer
is the same hardware as 32X. Someone said that just update the firmware will make the change.
For me, I am still wondering if it really work like the other
"overclockable" cdwriters as we known before.
Do any of your guys have the idea if it is true?
Thanks for your attention and I gonna find out more information about
the lite-on driver from other forums as well.

Hey, mine is under warranty, I will guinea pig the firmware if there is good cause. Plus I have plenty of backup so it won't be an inconvenience if a drive has to go in.

c'mon @nt, give us some more data. is there any documentation of anyone doing this and succeeding yet? this has happened in the past and could be possible now. i'll do mine as soon as tron tells me it worked on his.

Ok guys, i hacked the firmware, haven’t tested it yet however, if there is someone who wants to try. post your email address here and i sent it over to ya.

When you have tested it please report if it worked or not, and which manufacturing date your drive is, and also the currently loaded firmware (I’ve changed it so that 5S** to 5S54 should work)

Oh and ofcourse a screenshot of nero :) (reinstall latest nero after it was flashed succesfull !)

PS: The reason why i haven't tried to flash myself because i have a 'older' drive, the one that is different from the later 24x drives (which i think CAN be converted to 32x no problem) (see release data of newest firmware, if drive is manufactured after that date, my guess is its possible to flash to 32x, otherwise probably not)


Anyway, nobody wants to try ? (with older/new drive)

thanks man. there's also a guy (maximus) posted in the firmware oc section about this. he said he tried it and it wouldn't work because it couldn't find a 32x burner, and he doesn't know how to hack it himself. i know a couple of guys that said they were willing to try if i could find one that would install. they have very new drives. mine is probably six months old and i too am wondering if there is a difference. i also think that the newer drives are more likely to work with this.

if i can get anyone to try it i'll report back for sure.

Someone has allready tryed that. It didnt worked. CD-RW is now dead. Go to see by yourself in liteons discussion forum.
