We all know that Solid State drives (SSDs) are faster and more durable alternative of HDDs and likely to make HDDs obsolete one day. But the British developer, DataSlide claim they have found a faster and more efficient alternative, called the Hard Rectangular Drives (HRD).
The HRDs are made of two-sided media layer and millions of read-write heads created using the lithography process; These discs are presumed to be four times faster than the hard disk drives but only consumes half of the power needed by power-hungry SSDs. This also means you could have a 3.5-inch drive that boasts 500MB/s transfer speed.
The HRD has multiple heads which allow data to be read in parallel. DataSlide claims the HRD allows 64 heads to read and write simultaneously. Hope DataSlide will soon come out with a solid product of the HRD that works more efficiently and as fast as the SSDs but with a cheaper price.
