Hello mates,

I need a DVD drive, if it writes or not is not mandatory but would be good, that needs to have two features:

- extremely resilient to mechanical shock (it is going to be installed in a car)
- no drawer, just a simple input like the one in the picture below:

So: 1) Do you know any model or manufacturer that develops this type of hardware or do you recommend any model considering any of the two specifications?

and 2) How is this type of CD/DVD input called, where you have no drawer and teh Cd is just automatically sucked into the drive?

It's called SLOT LOAD... The only recent DVD drive (and this one was a burner) I have seen like that is the Plextor PX-716AL, but I doubt you will find it. I think I have a SCSI DVD-ROM drive from Pioneer in my basement... Pioneer made some slot loading readers a few years back. Try eBay.
