To Whom It May Concern:

Why won’t my JVC HR-XVC19 combo deck with VHS and DVD playback a movie setup I made using Nero 7 Premium software? The media I used was the Philips Model DR4S6B25F/17 DVD+R that reads RW on the discs which I find odd because usually if it is a recordable disc it will just say +RW or –RW? What are the problems here with playback on a home DVD player when it will play perfectly on a four year old computer’s DVD drives and newer LG DVD external USB Burner?

Tell me what to do or what I need to buy so far as media that will ensure my playback on ANY DVD player home or computer. I know Nero is supposed to change the encoding (transcoding) for all file formats including .MOV, .DIVX, .WMV etc. before it makes the DVD so that it will playback on any DVD player (MPEG 2). But what is the problem with why it says DISC ERROR when I try to playback on the JVC combo deck? I would appreciate all the help. Thank you.

You may want to check two things:

1) is your source movie NTSC or PAL?
2)Is your burner capable of changing the booktype bit-settings? 

If your movie is in NTSC format and you can change the bit-setting from DVD+R tp DVD-Rom within Nero(you can do this by opening up Nero Burning rom, choose the "Choose recorder" from the recorder drop down menu, make sure you click the Options button in the lower left corner see what the Book Type bit setting is set to.)  I would wager it is set to Automatic.  Set it to DVD rom.

actually i changed to a DVD-R disc and it worked perfectly. I talked to several people and they said that DVD+R (RW) discs are not best suited for playback on home DVD players because they are usually bought for data backup and archive on a DVD-recorder/burner and are a newer media format. The DVD-R disc played just fine but yes I had settings to automatic but i can mes with what you say on settings and see if that will make the DVD+R (RW) play the movie but why would that really matter? THat seems odd to have to change that setting when it is being set to record to a DVD-Video compatible on home players. THE DVD-R discs played perfect!
