Second post, another newbie question. Did a search on these came up empty. I found these at Staples, they came in a 25 pack for around $19.99, IIRC. I chose them because they were made in Japan, not Taiwan (have done a little snooping around here-- great site!). They also say they will last 100 years, and have the following "premium features":

--triple coated for maximum protection
--error rate specification exceeds Orange Book Part II standards

They have a blue label on top of the CD-R itself, and are greenish underneath with maybe a slight bluish tint to it. Anyone have any info on these? Thanks in advance.

Maxell Pro CD-Rs are (to the best of my knowledge) always manufactured by Taiyo Yuden. They are very good quality discs, but I find you end up paying a real premium to have the Maxell logo stamped on them.

That's not the case here in the USA... They are VERY cheap, and EXTREMELY HIGH QUALITY!!! I use them on a daily basis now, since my local WalMart has started stocking them...

why these are bad if made in taiwan ?

Taiwanese media is not neccessarily bad, but generally it is of a lower quality then Japanese made media.

Usually media made in Taiwan have so many different qualities, meaning you cannot control what you burn.

Most of the MAxells that I've seen were by Ritek, except Pro series. About $11.50 + tax in Walmart. Good quality, c1 rate is slightly worse than TY. I am very pleased with them. Spoiled only one out of 200. Officedepot sometimes as them on sale for $10 each or 2 for $20.

This is interesting, imho it probably depends on region. I buy those for about 2 years from different retailers in USA and never saw CMCs.

The Maxells I have (and I've used them for some time) here in the US are TY Media.
