The Santa Clara-headquartered Nvidia Corporation, player in programmable graphics processor technologies, yesterday announced the opening of its design centre in Pune.

Mr Jen Hsun Huang, Co-founder, President and Chief Executive Officer, Nvidia Corporation, told newspersons the Pune facility would be equipped as a data centre.

He said that Nvidia, which is the leader in graphics, had been on the lookout for a company which dealt in the development of graphics in the mobile space. The Pune-based Pace Soft Silicon was found suitable as it was developing IP in this space. Pace Soft Silicon was acquired in December 2005, and its name was changed to Nvidia. Mr Jen also pointed out that since its founding, Nvidia has invested over $1 billion in research and development.
