Can any one help!

I have a LiteOn LDW-811S, im trying to back up my DVD collection but when i copy a DVD onto a blank DVD it won't work in a normal household DVD player!

Ive upgraded the firmware to the latest edition, ive used various blank DVD's and used various copying software!

Is there somthing im doing wrong or does the drive generally not copy dvd's?

You said you "copied" it onto a blank DVD.... Did you use DVD Decrypter or what software did you utilize? You can't simply copy a DVD to another....

Thanks for the reply...
Sorry I didn't explain my self very well...

I've used smart ripper to rip the dvd, then dvd2one to compress the dvd down to about 4GB then used nero to burn the disk. I've set up two files named Audio_TS & Video_TS on the dvd and put the ripped files in Video_TS file.

I'm using the latest firmware on the LDW-811s and using 4x Grade A Media -(minus) format disks - Ritek g04.

What is the Brand and Model number of your DVD Player as some will not play DVD Media, If you give me the answer we should be able to tell you if your Player is compatible with -R !!!

The one player is a Technics Stereo & CD/DVD player, the CD/DVD seperate is SL-DV250. I've tried the DVD's in my X-Box & Playstation 2 and tried it on my parents tv down stairs which is the Philips 32PW6826/05 which is a TV & DVD built together.

I've tried it on my mates DVD player which is Ronin DVD 703 which it works fine on, because it works fine on this player this is making me beleive it's not somethning i'm doing wrong! [?] It's all so head doing!

... the other thing is that I have tried the exact same thing on my uncles copier (not sure what copier he has but it isn't the same as mine), using -(minus) format disk and they all work fine in all the DVD players which make me even more confused!

I had a similar problem when I first got my Liteon 811.

If you upgrade to Nero 6.3, it should work fine. Nero 6.3 defaults to all of the correct setting for you when you select "Video DVD".

If you are running Nero 6.0 or earlier, After selecting "Video DVD" try changing the following settings to see if that helps you.

ISO tab-

File Name length - ISO level 1

Character set - 9660

un-check "Joliet"

Relax ISO restrictions -
Check the top two, leave the last un-checked.

That is what worked for me anyways, best of luck.

BTW, there is a program out that is freeware called DVD shrink. www.dvdshrink.org

Does the same thing as DVD Decryptor and DVD2one in one step. It will even automatically port into Nero, but I haven't tried that function yet.

Never fear if you are waiting on firmware from LiteOn... they will be sending them out like you change your socks!!!!! [}:)]

Now on to the problem: Have you tried the "recommended" media for the drive? Most users are using this drive without problems being reported, except for a few firmware glitches... I would try experimenting a bit more with different media brands.

It works!

Just as I was going to get a hammer to it, it got scared and decided to work!

The software that AnalogKid recommended is brilliant. DVD Shrink works brilliantly and my backups work in all my DVD Players!

Thanx to everyone for your help!

Are you sure you use the DVD-video compilation in nero?
