Hi all....

But those media are expensive!  About .44 -> .69 per disk for SL DVD+R!  I can find DVD+R online for $0.19/disk (manufacturer BulkPaq, GreatAZO) or "better" quality disks from Ritek for .029/disk.  When NEC comes out with their recommendations, is it based purely on burning speed?  Because I don't care about that at all.  My only issue is "will it play in my minivan"?  I'll burn at 1X if I have to. 

I do have the 3.22 firmware which sets BOOKSTYPES to DVD-ROM automatically,  That seems to fix the minivan-compatibiiltiy issue.  But does the "quality" of the media make a difference? I mean,  if I burn at 4X or even 2X, does the "quality" of the media matter at all?

Have on mind that a drive, according to its firmware, might burn better at 8X than 1X. Recommentations? Quality and compatibility ( due to the firmware).

Some brands like Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim are known for their great quality.
If you know what the firmware supports you get the appropriate media, for example due to firmware some 16X certified media are not supported by a drive for such speed but onlt at 8X, in that case there is no need to get those 16X media.
Moreover some people or website or whatever have experience on this...when they recomment a disc they know for the result....
