I've just put a sony dru-530a on my PC (win xp, 1gb ram, athlon xp2400+) and haven't yet managed to successfully burn a dvd. It reads commercial (film) dvd's fine, as well as cdrs that I've burned myself. It also read a dvd-r I had (some old cine films I had transferred commercially - didn't do it myself). However, whenever I try burning data to a +r dvd (using verbatim +r blanks and Recordnow! (software that came with the dvd) it tells me the burn has been successful....but then when I try to read it in the dvd drive I get the message "please insert a disk in drive" or "incorrect parameter".Strangely, on a single occassion, it did read the disk successfully and I had managed to put data on the disk. However, when I put the disk back in a second (etc) time, I got the "please insert a disk" message over and over. I've tried altering the burn settings (slower/faster burning, leaving disks open and closed etc...) but it keeps happening.

Any suggestions???? Please???

This is obviously due to low +R compatibility with (especially) older readers.

Please use -R discs as a cure to these problems.

Who in the world burns +R when he can burn -R ?! ;)

Avoid +R whenever you can!! (a format born dead, if you ask me :D)

Well, I wouldn't necessarily say Dead, but I do admit, it would be nice if one format or the other won out.... but -R seems to be the most compatible all around for everyone.

I can confirm that first hand.
Tested so far on my DVD-ROM LG drive, and on a Philips standalone unit.
DVD-R works everywhere flawlessly.
But DVD+R won't work on the Philips unit (ironically!!), and my LG drive won't read it without interruptions...
