Hey, I just got myself the Lite-on 411s DVD +/- RW drive and was wondering if anybody has had experiance w/ the drive in regards to the brand of media they've used. I'm particularly curious in the Kyphermedia brand aince it is sorta cheap. Any suggestions?

Yes, it's CHEAP, and STAY AWAY from it. I suggest getting some Taiyo Yuden media (TY) media, as it seems to work well with the LiteOn drives. While I personally have never owned or will own a LiteOn, there are plenty of other users, who I expect will post here as well to tell you the experiences good and bad with media and the LiteOn drive.

Some people have had no problems with compusa media.. but I have found them to work better for skeet shooting...
Although I never know if miss the shot, or the round goes through the hole in the center of the disk.. what a B*tch.
Thats me suggesting an alternative use for Kyphermedia also.
I bought some Optodisc just to try , 10 discs burnt, 10 discs coasterless and readable.

my liteon hates Compusa media. Movies burn but they skip :-(

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you purchase cheap media, you usually get CHEAP results..... Purchase quality media.... remember you are trying to either back something up, or create something that you want to last.... When you go to the doctor for a heart transplant, do you shop around for the "cheapest" doctor??? I don't think so....... media is the same... and if you choose quality media, you will get quality results...

and you certainly wouldn't want the cheapest heart either!

The only good use for cheap media is making sure if your menu system works... since that part of the disc should be the easiest to burn, and less likely to be completely "borked"

I use my Liteon 851S to burn DVD movies on Princo DVD-R and Arita DVD+R brands (these two are quite cheap), it is not working well. I use Nero 6 to burn movies. Both backups can not playback on my Mustek DVD player, but they are working on my DVD-ROM. I downloaded Liteonit BookType Utility from official website and I changed the DVD+R to DVD-ROM by using this software. After that, most of the DVD+R (Arita brand) backups can be playback on my DVD player. This software is not support DVD-R media.

The LiteON drive burns Arita DVD+Rs very well, I would suggest downloading LiteON's bitsetting tool to set the disc to DVD-ROM instead of DVD+R to see if that will help. If it doesn't, then it is probably the DVD player.

Dolphinius_Rex is right, u need to download booktype changing tool from Liteon official website to change the disc to DVD-ROM instead of DVD+R. That makes ur Arita DVD+R DVD backups can be played back on normal DVD player.

If u are after low cost media, i personal suggest u buy a MSI burner, it burns Princo and Arita media very good.
