I recently bought a plextor 716A which, up until today, seemed to work like a charm. I used to be able to burn DVD+RW discs in approx. 13 at 4x minutes but today, for no apparent reason (same discs, all software shut down,...) it took more than 20 minutes at 4x.

I have 2 questions :

What is the normal duration at 4x to write a DVD+r?

Is it normal that Nero displays the time remaining for the dvd burn and that it's far from accurate? At the beginning of the DVD burn, it shows 13 minutes and after reaching 0 mins remaining the DVD burn hasn't even reached 50%.

For a 4X writing you'll need something close to 14min. If it was with one disc only maybe the specific was not too good any the burner slow down its speed just to prevent the media.

Yes this with Nero happens. If a disc identifies for 4X, the absolute time should be 13min in theory. Most times theory to practice has a small difference.

Your time is close to 2.4X instaed of 4X.

You're right. i tested the drive with nero cd/dvd speed and I reached 2.56x with different dvd+rw discs. Like I said, up until yesterday, everything was ok and suddenly it slowed down. time to bring it back?

what dvd+rw is it? any brand and ID code?
