Hi,

Before I buy some Ritek discs, can anyone explain something to me?

I noticed that Ritek make several lines of disks. They are either made with the G04 dye or the G03 dye and are Overprinted or not.

What are the differences between the G03 and G04 dyes and which one should I go for? I'm after reliabilty and compatibilty with players.

Does Overprinted discs make any differences with regards to quality and reliabilty. My understanding of Overprint is the dye is printed over the original as it had imperfections - is this correct?

Thanks for any help given

Occasionally during the printing part of the manufacturing process, a disc can have slight imperfections. The discs are printed over the original print to hide the imperfections and usually these don't have any problems but that is the risk you take !!!
I would suggest that you go for the newer G04 Dye they seem to be better quality and more compatible with certain Writers and Players !!!

Agreed, the G03 discs were okay, and MUCH better then the G02 discs, but the G04 FAR outperforms both!

Thaks for the replies guys

L.A. when you mention the printing process, is this when they print the dye on the disc or the top part of the disc as I didn't quite understand it [:I]

I think you also pointed me to the SVP website a while back. Any experience of the Riteks from this place and would you recommend a type as they sell quite a few. Is it worth getting the Traxdata (which says is made by Ritek)or Memorex discs? I'm looking to spend 1 per disc max. Sorry for all the questions but you have to bear with me as its the first time I've entered the DVD recording arena and like to get things right!

Cheers

Wow that was a quick reply L.A!!

After a bit of head scratching I actually ended up choosing the Pioneer 106. I'm after -R media as from my understanding this should give me less compatabilty issues with stand alone players and the quality of backup DVDs is the same as +R media. I think you mentioned that Riteks were the one to go for but as they do a lot of different types I'm a bit confused as to which one to go for [8)]

Hi there, the OVERPRINTING process is about the printing of the brand on top side, or about the DIE itself???

I guess, if it's about the "top printing" it would not be so bad...

By the way, I've found a shop, www.gradeamedia.co.uk , that sells some 4x dvd-r Ritek's unbranded with "frosted top". I'd like to buy it (I like the "frosted top"), but I've seen the 4x dvd-r Arita's disk at www.dvd-and-media.com . Who should I trust more? Have anyone bought from this shop before? Please tell me your experience with both kind of discs (Arita / unbranded "frosted top").

Have a nice day/evening!
Good Halloween (to those who live in the english countries)!

Well I can't tell you anything about either of these 2 shops as I have never used them but I can recommend :-
http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/
I have used them many times and I have never had any problems with them and they have got to be one of the best ON-Line shops in the UK !!!

Sorry but that shop doesn't ship outside uk -or do they? Anyway I need the shipping cost to be low as well. Where do you live, Laffin?

I'll ask them about shipping to Italy.

blankdiscshop.co.uk don't ship internationally. They redirected me to www.ketta.com, and their shipping cost is about 21 (plus VAT, I think) for Italy! It seems too high to me.

I've just ordered 50 Arita 4x dvd-r from www.dvd-and-media.com (official distributor for Ritek products). Shipping is 10.75 + VAT. Not the cheapest but good. I'll tell you about these dvd-r once I get it.

Laffin, please explain to me: the "overprinting" concerns the die or the "branding" on the upper side??? The defect is in the die or the print on upper side?? Thank you!

As I've planned to get DVD burner in a few months, I would like to know if I can get media cheaper from foreign countries.
