As production on Black & White 2 continues its developers have been revealing some of the new aspects they have been working on. This time around a lot of attention has been shown to how many of the game's environments work, and as game programmer, Matthew Hanlon explains, the detail of depth is very impressive. "Forests are just one of the many background simulations that make up the world of Black & White 2; we wanted the simulation to act like you'd expect a real forest to," he explains. "Trees in the forest are split into those which are still growing and fully grown mature trees. The mature trees drop seeds, which, under the right conditions, sprout into saplings, so the forest will naturally expand and produce new trees. If, for example, you pull all the trees out of the centre of a forest, over time new trees will grow into the space filling in the hole." Fertility is another new concept that Lionhead has revealed for the sequel and its now possible to find landscapes that have totally barren wastelands (where nothing will grow), to lush stretches of super fertile land. Lionhead is putting a massive amount of thought into its new project - let's just hope its appreciated as and when the game's eventually released. Source : TotalGames
