Hi everyone,

Even though my DVD burner is rated at 8X, the highest burn speed option offered by Nero was 4X. I'm using 8X media, so I figured I needed a firmware update. I downloaded and applied v 3.2 which was apparently a bad idea b/c after I rebooted, neither BIOS nor XP recognizes the drive anymore. Is there anything I can do to salvage the drive (swapping out BIOS chip) or do I have to get a new unit?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

You used a 3.2 firmware for your NEC 2510 drive? I think you flashed your drive with a firmware which is not suitable for the 2510. Can you give us a link to the installed firmware and maybe we can help you further. First you could try to flash the 2510 with original NEC 2510 firmware, which can be found on my firmware page (see link below). But with not recognising your drive anymore I think it will be difficult.

scorpiosoft,

I used the firmware found on this page. The flash process claimed it was successful, but after I rebooted, no drive is visible in XP. How would I apply a different firmware when the drive is not being recognized by even the motherboard?

Thanks for your advice

Is your drive recognized by the BIOS when you boot up your computer? Also what kind of motherboard chipset do you have?

Hi everyone,

tqhoang: My mobo chipset is 865PE and my BIOS does not see the drive.

scorpiosoft: The DVD-RW is already the only drive on the IDE channel

Any other ideas before I buy this other NEC unit?
