I just got one of those KHypermedia 48-24-48 CDRW burners that OfficeMax was giving away ($0 after rebates). Has anyone found a good place to buy 24x CDRW 80 min media? Neither OfficeMax, Office Depot, Best Buy or CompUSA carry them locally. Online, all I've found so far is some guy on eBay selling them (successfully!) for $7 per disk (and that's only the 74 min version), and Amazon is offering a 5 pak of Memorex 24x 80 min for about $12 with shipping. Anyone seen any better deals?

The memorex 24x is not a good deal. Even if they were free it would not be a good deal. Check out some of the posts made by MP3 Mogul for more info on that one.

I would suggest the Mitsubishi Chemicals 24x CD-RWs. You can find them under the brand Verbatim Datalife Plus. I believe they only have 74min 24x CD-RWs so far, but at least they will work!

Thanks for the heads-up on the Memorex.

There's a 10-pack of the Verbatims for $10 plus shipping here:

Yes, as Dolphinius said, the Mitsi Chemical discs are the best ones that I have found to date.

Shoot, really? Now I wish I'd waited for the 80 minutes. I couldn't find them on Verbatim's website, so I figured they didn't exist.

I'm guessing you crossed 80min and 700MB by mistake on that last post MP3Mogul, but I'm REALLY hoping that you really did mean 800MB CD-RWs...

ah shucks! oh well. But there is hope for a 90min CD-RW, since manufacturers are now making 90min CD-Rs with a proper 90min lead out

maybe if we buy lot's of the 90min CD-Rs they'll get the hint LOL!

That will be great.... can't wait to see them. And I'll be glad when my local stores get some 90 minute media here.

Is there a reputable dealer on the internet where I can get some 90 or 99 minute media?

Thanks

Still a proper lead out needs a burner that properly can read it and so far only some LG (52x) ,Lite-ON(mediatek 6 series with correct firmware.) (burners that allready can burn most 90+ disc's) and Pioneer DVD-writers can recognize it correct. Not that the pioneer drives do not support overburning. So only with this media they can reach up to a 90 minutes.

As a former retailer of CD-Rs, I bet the main reason that manufacturers started using a proper ATIP Lead-Out is to reduce the number of people complaining that they were really sold 80min CD-Rs instead! LOL!

seriously, at least 3 out of 5 customers who buy 90min or 99min media try to return it the next day (if they haven't burned them before at least). And it doesn't help that most stores that sell oversized media don't know how to burn it properly, or that some drives just *can't* handle the media.
