I was able to rip and burn Hero on to a blank dvd. But when I tried burning Resident Evil Apocalypse...it does its anaylzing to about 14-15% then it just stops. I'm assuming theres some kind of protection on the DVD itself and would like to know how to get by that?

Like how do i get by this problem, or is there a better combo that works better then Nero/DVD Shrink?

Try AnyDVD to remove any possible protection!

I posted this elsewhere on the forum, however:

The DVD you are talking about has the new Sony Archos protection. Do a google search for VOB Blanker and it will rip the DVD for you, then use Shrink to shrink it...No other program that I have seen so far will back this up except for VOB Blanker.

awesome thanks, ill try that in a bit, just got back from work. I tried ANy DVD but not sure how to use it....im assuming its doing something when it shows me a list of the CSS things....whatever...thanks though XD

Hi all. Im having a problem with DVD Shrink, and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing and how you got round it. I am running the latest DVD Shrink version, yet on certain DVDs, I am finding that the decryption process starts and gets to about 40-45% through, and the whole machiene turns itself off [:(] ! I cannot understand why. It only happens on certain DVDs. Others can be put in and it works fine. Just thought Id see if anyone else has had the same problem and what they did to get round it.

Following on from the message above, is there any DVD Shrink alternatives that are as good other than DVD Decrypter and DVD2One that anyone knows of?

Are these 'certain' DVD's scratched or damaged at all?

As for an alternative, you could try using the AnyDVD/CloneDVD combination. Be warned though, it's not free software. Also, in my opinion, the quality isn't as good as DVDShrink's.

Yeah, it only seems to play up when the discs are scratched or quite old. Very odd, yet on a mates PC it works fine. Cant explain it

In that case, I'd suggest you first use DVD-Decrypter, than DVD Shrink. Decrypter tends to do better with scratched discs. You might also try getting one of those 'disc repairers' from BestBuy, that should help your drive read it easier.

So is does that mean that it is because of the software and not the PC cause Ive been worrying that its some major problem!

Likely, it's a combination of a poorer quality burner with the scratched discs. Like I said, your best bet is probably DVD Decrypter.

I have decrypted a disc with DVD Decrypter which works fine. I open it in DVD Shrink and attempt to back it up, and it does exactly the same thing i.e. switches itself off. Something that seems very strange!

Any suggestions anyone?

Strange indeed. Try this: go to Control Panel/System/Advanced/Startup and Recovery:Settings. Now, under System failure, make sure that "automatically restart" is unchecked. I kinda doubt this will work, but it's worth a shot.

Sounds like your CPU or motherboard is overheating. Can you monitor your CPU & case/system temp with something like Motherboard Monitor (realize development has stopped)? Your BIOS might be set to turn off the machine instead of throttle down. Please list your CPU, motherboard & BIOS version so we can see if it's the latest one.

Also something else to try in your system is Memtest86 (original) or Memtest86+ (derivative). I've seen machines where a memory stick is bad and it either causes lockups or reboots...not usually shutdowns, but you never know...

Have downloaded motherboard monitor, however my motherboard is not supported by this software. Does this make a difference or can I select any motherboard?
