What in the world kind of English is this written in, certainly not correct English! I can't understand what the review is saying...Emperor can you can tell us what the review is saying about the drive?

It's a Japanese site run thru babelfish's translator, so of course it isn't going to sound like natural English...

Sounds like you maybe able to explain what's going on then!

Cal 01 GenAn was correct, that japanese site had some interesting tests, of course the translation is not perfect but shows something for those hungry 716A users

BestBuy currently is selling the PX-716A. Does anyone know if this is a quality drive after you upgrade the firmware?? Or, would I be better off buying the Pioneer or the NEC?

Thanks,

jwmghf

If BestBuy is selling that drive online now it has to be a new drive probably with a later TLA number. Because a couple of weeks ago BestBuy was out of those drives at least in the USA.

I just went to BestBuy and bought it. I hope it works ok. How can I tell if it's a later TLA number??? It says on it:

TLA #0202

What do you think?

jwmghf

GenAn -> RE: Plextor PX-716A (P-)review! (12/10/2004 3:58:15 PM)

TLA 0202 is the lastest revision.

jwmghf -> RE: Plextor PX-716A (P-)review! (12/10/2004 4:27:02 PM)

Do I need to load the latest firmware or not?

Thanks,

jwmghf

GenAn -> RE: Plextor PX-716A (P-)review! (12/10/2004 6:07:33 PM)

No, it already has FW 1.02 installed. The TLA# can be broken down into two parts: the first two digits signify the hardware revision while the last two the firmware version. So TLA#0202 means version 02 of the hardware with fw 1.02 installed from the factory.

Hey GenAn:

I just burned my 1st movie with the drive. DodgeBall with Vince Vaughn an Ben Stiller. I used DvDShrink. Thanks for all the info.

Can we get a Q-Check SUM8 scan?

jwmghf -> RE: Plextor PX-716A (P-)review! (12/10/2004 7:23:17 PM)

Absolutely, just tell me what I have to do?!!!!!

GenAn -> RE: Plextor PX-716A (P-)review! (12/10/2004 8:07:54 PM)

Well, first of all, have you installed Plextools? Q-Check is one of Plextools' functions.
