PartyMeOuza -> Yamada 6600 DVD player! (11/13/2004 4:19:50 PM)

Hello!

I want to buy a good DVD player which also plays DivXs and XViDs.

The Yamada 6600 seems ok does anyone have any comments about it?

Thanks!

I'd go for the philips DVP 642. I will state that I have a bias because I got one a few months ago and its played almost everything I have chucked at it. You can get them for $90CDN or I think $70USD. The only file it hasn't played so far was 3ivx but it never said that it could so I could care less. Anyhow, it has progressive scan, plays PAL and NTSC format and can be made region free in about 30 seconds. The following website has a lot of feedback from people who own it and I'd say 95%+ of them are positive. http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=4117&Search=Search&#comments

Can't beat the price/performance ratio on this baby.

Hope that this helps.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'll definitely check it out!

P.S. Can you confirm that it plays XviDs? Cheers.

What about Philips DVP720SA?

Iggy: I thought about the 720SA but I am unsure about the video output. Is the CVBS output your classic (yellow) video output?

Thnks!

Check this page for connection images.[:)]

There is a CVBS video output as well as an S-Video and a component.

Yeah I saw the review earlier but I have never seen the yellow video output called a CVBS! Not really a person who fiddles with electronics - call me a newb! [:)]

I have had good luck with the Xvids that I have tried in it. I have however, heard that some people have had trouble playing Xvid files. I don't think its on the official supported list but the link I posted before may have more feedback from other people. I can tell you that as recently as Sunday I successfully played back Xvid but again, I post the disclaimer, that I have heard of other people having problems with this. I don't know what the other people burned with but I only use TY02 and Verbatim 8x+R discs for most of my permanent collection. The last Xvid I played back was done on a fuji 4x+RW, media code RICOHJPNW11. All discs were burned with my NEC3500A, firmware 2C8. That's pretty much all the info I can give you aside from telling you that I just bought my little brother one of them too, for Christmas. Hope that was of some help.
