Ok, I been reading all around this forum about the new Firmwares and trying to find out which one I should update to.

I am currently on 2.16 orginal firmware. Is 2.18 or 2.C8SE newer? what are the difference? Other than greater support for media, does the new firmware give better quality burns?

All I want to do with my NEC3500 is to burn good quality Data Backups, I don't care much for DuelLayers, DVDRW, or burnning movies, I just use quality DVD-R&DVD+R. So, will updating help with quality data burn?

2.18se is a modified 2.18 and non-original! i prefer the 2.18!

got two bad burns with TDK TTG02 @8x... wonder if it is the disk or my system. I only burned one disk (with 2.16) before I updated to 2.18.


PS: how can I have signature added automaticly, without having to check it everytime?

I also notice the burn quality aren't as good with 2.18... weird, it could just be me.

From your profile you can set a singature and enable the appropriate check box in order to be visible.[:)]

What I meant by "aren't as good with 2.18"... I did a Transfer test with Nero Speed, a before and after test with the same type of media TYG01@8x.

The disc created with 2.18 can't even get up to 13x, were as the disc created with 2.16 can read up to 16x just find and the graph is smooth too.

I would post a screen shot, but don't have Permission.

First of all, uploading of pictures should working just fine right now, the 2.18 is the latest official firmware from NEC, let us know about your results

Both were burned with TYG01@8x, same drive and same system.

With the same media? Very strange results, how about trying also with 2.17? I also have seen some strange results with 2.18
