astra -> Nokia launches the E72 smartphone. (6/15/2009 5:55:56 AM)

It's goodbye to the E71 and hello to the Finnish giant's smartphone sequel, the Nokia E72.

Pitched as the perfect handset for work or play, the QWERTY-packing E72 offers much of what made the E72 popular, but throwing in enough enhancements to make an upgrade just about worthwhile, including a 'desktop like' email experience similar to the E75, a new optical navigation key for 'more intuitive' (or BlackBerry-like) scrolling through menus, emails and images, an upgraded camera from 3.2-megapixel up to 5-megapixel and a standard 3.5 mm audio jack.

You can also set up instant messaging accounts from the homescreen for the first time, including Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk and Ovi, as well as being able to access commonly-used email services with improved on-device email setup for the likes of Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Windows Live Hotmail and Ovi Mail. For corporate use, there are also onboard clients for Mail for Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes Traveler. If that's not enough, the E72 also offers faster up- and downlink speeds, A-GPS with integrated Maps, active noise cancellation for clearer conversations and for a touch of the bizarre, a torch can be activated with a single press of the spacebar key.

The Nokia E72 is expected to begin shipping late in the third quarter of 2009, with an estimated retail price of 350 Euros or free if you sign a contract.
