killalot57 -> What does this .bat do? (4/25/2008 12:37:25 AM)
I found a batch command file that said the following...
@echo off :df del %1 if exist %1 goto df
What does this mean? what does df represent? P.S. I deleted it so I hope it wasn't important, I assume it's malware.

Not sure what the batch file is named on your PC, but for the sake of explanation I will say it is called "delme.bat". If you were to run "delme.bat" and after the command type a file name it would delete that file name... for example:
The first entry after the space in the batch file at a command prompt becomes the "%1" variable. If it is unable to delete the file, the if/exist will loop the batch be a goto label (in this case :df) until it can.

Oh.... Anyway It was in... C:\Documents and Settings\MyAccount\Local Settings\Temp
And I think It was called recoverfile.bat or something like that, and It was detected by "avg anti-spyware" and "comodo.firewall" as a virus or something, actually avg stated that it specifically wasn't a virus, but that It could be used malicously by a hacker.... something like that...

Yep, it sure could.

It could also be for an update of ... say an antivirus program, ... or an anti spyware program, it could be alot of things.

Well, then I guess it's best deleted to be better safe than sorry...
