LinuxMarshall -> Linux kernel is just not up to scratch (5/8/2006 12:31:07 PM)

Andrew Morton, the Linux lead maintainer and not the confidante of the late Princess of Wales, has made the startling claim that the Linux production kernel has too many defects.

Morton told the LinuxTag conference in Wiesbaden, Germany that he was considering drastic action to resolve resolve the number of bugs in the 2.6 kernal.

He said that Kernel developers needed to spend more time fixing bugs and he is planning to have an entire cycle dedicated to the task.

One problem was that few developers could be arsed working on defects and this was causing problems for those using old computers or peripherals.

Part of the reason for this was that many kernel developers are employed by IT companies who are not interested in five year-old peripherals that no-one is selling any more.
