Howdy,
Is there much of a difference in the sonic quality of music burned with various brands of DVD writers? I see various terms like jitter, C1 & C2 errors mentioned when it comes to write quality, but how audible are those errors, or does it have more to do with skipping or just not playing at all. How do Plextor 708, Pioneer DVR07, Lite-on LDW811 and NEC2500 compare to your ears when it comes to sound quality of burned CDs when played through a home stereo CD player? Has anyone tried a comparison, using the same media?

I agree, unless you are a professional audiophile with an oscilliscope hooked to your equipment, you will not be able to measure this accurately!

MP3Mogul is right, you can use an oscilloscope to make out the noise on an analogue signal, before it reaches your speakers, although even this is not always easy, when noise level is low. But it is more accurate to make out white noise from the digital signal, with the appropriate equipment. Ususally noise appears in specific frequences, so mathematics (DSP) could help towards this direction. Just some thoughts..

I also use a pink noise board to accurately determine the optimum settings....

P.S. I assume the burners I mentioned have a low enough write error rate (using quality media) so I could use them to archive important data that's relatively readable into the future?
