SiliconFreak -> Commodore Geeks re-release Quantum Link ! (9/20/2005 11:18:22 AM)

A group of Commodore geeks has relaunched the Quantum Link which was the pre-AOL service for Commodore 64 and 128 personal computers.

The network ran from November 5, 1985 to November 1, 1994 and was seen as a pre-internet service by some.
The network later changed its name to AWOL and the rest was history. In the good old days it was ahead of its time, Q-Link had email, online chat, public domain file sharing libraries, online news, and instant messaging, using On Line Messages, or OLMs.

Users connected to Q-Link at a blistering 1200 bits per second, although there were a few folks that had modems that went at 300 bits per second.

The new Q-Link, or Quantum Link Reloaded runs on the Internet which replaced it. It can be accessed using the VICE Commodore 64 emulator on Windows or Linux or else on original Commodore hardware or PC.

Ah Rails West and Colonial Conquest, who would have thought something so simple, could be so much fun.
